Dr. Dwayne Kowalchuk, DMD
SW Calgary Dentist
Born and raised in Calgary, Dr. K started on the path to becoming a dentist during his undergraduate years. He earned two degrees — one in art and another in biology. He knew that he wanted to get into some aspect of health care and liked that he could help people and put his diverse skills to good use.
“I thought that the marriage of my art experience and my biological sciences experience would work perfectly with dentistry.”
To expand his horizons in a new country, Dr. K attended Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. He wanted to go someplace different and get a new perspective at a school that provided its students with a well-rounded education. Dr. K completed additional work in hours, practice and experience that many other dental schools don’t require.
Dr. K served patients early on in his program, doing community work, completing internships at different dental practices and seeing patients at community health centres. He and his fellow dental students worked not only as dentists but participated in the roles of dental assistants and dental hygienists to assist each other during treatment.
“I got a chance to see dentistry from all different sides, not just from the doctor’s point of view and skill set.”
Working in health centres and community clinics gave Dr. K experience with many diverse patients and procedures, and he learned how to help all different types of patients.
He graduated top of his class (Summa Cum Laude) and was Valedictorian for the Class of 2006, then returned home to Calgary to practice. His broad education and experience continues to benefit our patients today.
“The most fulfilling part of dentistry is solving our patients’ problems. I enjoy finding solutions for their smile, bite and oral health. It’s satisfying to see a patient come in with a concern, then having them leave with a plan in place to tackle their problem.”
Dr. K completes many courses each year to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in dentistry. He believes that it’s important that he and his team constantly develop their skills. He is a member of:
Previous charities close to Dr. K’s heart include the J/P Haitian Relief Organization and Plan International Canada’s “Because I am a Girl” program, where he has sponsored several children and clean water programs in South America.
Dr. K loves traveling, exercising and outdoor activities such as hiking or camping. A self-described “ex-sugar-aholic” and now “sugar-free bio-hacker”, Dr K. has started incorporating his knowledge and experience with nutrition, sleep science and anti-aging science, into his own life and that of his patients – writing blogs and articles to help his patients maximize their quality of life and healthiness. He’s a foodie, an avid reader and film fan, and frequently goes to see live cultural events such as concerts and comedy shows.
Dr. Tammie Cheung
SW Calgary Dentist
After practicing as a dental hygienist for a few years, Dr. Cheung decided to return to school to become a dentist. She wanted to be able to do more for her patients. Her journey lead her on an adventure to Australia, where she received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Sydney. While studying dentistry, Dr. Cheung participated in extracurricular elective programs in endodontics and emergency dentistry.
” I’m looking forward to building lasting relationships with my patients.”
She also completed a rural placement where she served communities with limited access to dental care. With a passion for serving the community, Dr. Cheung has travelled to Cambodia on a volunteer dental mission to provide dental care to marginalized populations. This is something that she wishes to continuing doing in the future.

Toni, Clinic Lead/Registered Dental Assistant II
Hi! My name’s Toni. I am the Clinical Lead Assistant at ConfiDENTAL in Airdrie. I have been a Dental Assistant for 20 years and I can say that I love what I do. It’s all about relationships! Building relationships with our patients and our amazing team, is the reason why I’ve stayed in the dental industry for all these years.
My family and I have called Airdrie home for the last 12 years and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. It’s a close-knit, community orientated city that is minutes away from the mountains. Can we ask for anything better?!
I enjoy reading, hiking, and travelling with my family. My number one adventure so far, has been visiting New Zealand! Next up – China!
Patient Care Coordinator / Registered Dental Assistant II
Hi! I’m Kelsey and I am thrilled to be a part of the ConfiDENTAL team. I focused on working chair side for a number of years before learning the administrative aspect of the office and now get to experience the best of both worlds. I have been practicing 7 years, with the exception of taking some time to raise my two beautiful children!
Without a doubt, I am passionate about what I do. The dental industry is a great fit for me. It offers the chance to work as a team, presents new challenges and allows you to meet some pretty awesome people. I take pride in having a patient leave our office with a smile and full intentions of coming back to visit us.
When not in the office, I trade my scrubs for clubs. I’m obsessed with golf! I’m also keen on being a mom, football, reading, traveling and all things fitness.

In my personal time, I love golfing, camping and reading. I have a young son, and he keeps me quite busy. We enjoy lots of outdoor activities in the summer and hockey in the fall and winter. Yes!! I am a proud Hockey Mom.
Hi, my name is Denise and I am one of the friendly voices that you may hear when calling ConfiDENTAL. I joined Dr Dwayne Kowalchuk’s team in October 2017 & truly love working with this awesome group. I graduated in 1989 as a Dental Assistant/Administrator but have chosen to work in the administration side of the industry. I have been working as an administrator since November 2003 and always look forward to all the exciting challenges that this position has in store for me. I truly believe that we have a great office and we all strive to be the best dental office. Our goal is making patients feel comfortable and providing excellent care.

Registered Dental Assistant II
Hi! I’m Veronica. A born and raised Calgarian, I still have strong ties to my Spanish roots, including speaking the language fluently. While new to the team at ConfiDENTAL, I am not new to the role of Dental Assistant. I have been assisting for about 14 years. The people I work and interact with are what make this job so enjoyable, especially the team at ConfiDENTAL which has been incredibly welcoming and has made me feel right at home! I really do enjoy helping people and educating them whenever I can.
When I’m not working you will find me outdoors, camping, and travelling. I also enjoy working out and being active.
Registered Dental Assistant II
When I’m not at work I enjoy spending time with my husband, chasing my 3 year old son, and travelling.
Registered Dental Hygienist
Hello, my name is Erin. My career in the dental field started when I graduated from Columbia College, here in Calgary as a dental assistant. I worked for several years as an assistant and in those years, had a growing interest towards becoming a hygienist. I attend the Toronto College of Dental Hygiene and now am proud to be apart of the ConfiDENTAL hygiene team – educating patients on how their oral health is linked to their overall health.
I am a huge animal lover; my little puppy, Acer, just celebrated his first birthday. Some of my hobbies also include golf, Ukrainian dance and camping.
Registered Dental Hygienist
Hi, I’m Joan. I am a face that many of you have known for years as I’ve been a member of this team for 21 years! It has truly been a privilege getting to know your families, which is one of the reasons why I’m still doing what I’m doing. I love the conversations and friendships that have been created through being a hygienist at ConfiDENTAL Health + Dental Clinic.
Our condo in Inveremere is my happy place and that’s where I spend most of my summer and free time. My 2 boys are also my joy in life. They are 22 and 25 now and have both graduated recently from University with business degrees. Good food, good wine & travel with friends and family is everything!
Registered Dental Hygienist
Hi, my name is Tara. I’m one of the Registered Dental Hygienists here at ConfiDENTAL Health + Dental Clinic. I’ve been in the dental field for 22 years now and love every moment of my work. I have a strong passion for helping our patients with their dental needs and based upon my years of assisting and hygiene experience, I can explain almost any dental procedure.
I graduated from Confederation College in Thunder Bay with a Dental Assistant Certification and then followed up with a 3-year Advanced Diploma in Dental Hygiene. I also received my Sedation Assistant Certification from the University of Alberta, which means I can help my patients feel more comfortable at their appointments through the use of local anesthetic and nitrous oxide.
When I’m not here at the office, you will find me with my hubby and 2 daughters. The past year has given us more of an appreciation for family and a greater understanding of medical issues as my younger daughter was diagnosed with a soft tumour cancer of the abdomen. She is a fighter and is currently doing well. We recently got a black lab pup named Jack who we adore. I also like camping, hunting & shopping.
